What I’ve Learned From Coaching 100+ People on Accountability
Over the past several years, I’ve worked with over 100 clients—each one with a different story, a different goal, and a different rhythm of life. You may have read my bio, where I started on coach.me just helping anyone who came through the site, looking for that boost of an accountability coach and finding me in the database. Since they were coming to me from habits they’d decided on already, they all came from different walks of life which was truly wonderful to start with such a diverse clientele.
Some were building businesses while raising kids. Some were managing full-time jobs and side hustles. Some were recovering from burnout. Some needed to break through anxiety around overwhelm. Some were simply tired of always setting goals… and never finishing them.
Across the board, I’ve noticed some powerful patterns. If you’ve been struggling to follow through on your goals or wondering if something’s wrong with you—this post is for you.
Here’s what I’ve learned from coaching 100+ people on accountability:
1. Everyone starts with good intentions—but intentions don’t always build consistency.
We love a fresh start. A new planner. A perfectly color-coded habit tracker. But most people stop after a few days or weeks—not because they’re not motivated, but because life always gets lifey.
What works instead: Systems that flex with your real life. Small steps. A built-in rhythm that supports your return, not just your start.
2. Overwhelm is the #1 reason people stop following through.
It’s not laziness. It’s too many tabs open in the brain. Too many priorities fighting for attention. Most people don’t know where to start—so they don’t.
What works instead: A coach or accountability partner who helps you zoom out, get clear on one goal, and then break it down into something actually doable.
3. Shame keeps people stuck.
When you fall off track, it’s easy to spiral into “I should’ve tried harder” or “What’s wrong with me?” But shame doesn’t lead to progress. It leads to quitting.
What works instead: Grace. Encouragement. And a system that helps you get back up without feeling like you have to start over from scratch.
4. Most people try to do it alone—and it doesn’t work.
We’re told that success comes from discipline, and it can…for a select group of people, but what most people need is support. Someone who gets it. Who sees what’s possible and walks with you while you build it.
What works instead: Real accountability. Someone to check in, ask questions, celebrate wins, and help you course-correct without judgment.
This is what I’ve built my coaching around—structure with compassion. Progress with grace.
If you’re someone who’s done the planners, set the goals, and still can’t figure out how to follow through… I promise you’re not broken.
You just need the right kind of support.
That’s what I do inside 1:1 coaching—and inside my soon to be launched group program: The Consistency Collective.
If this resonated, I’d love to talk about what kind of support would serve you best. 💛
